Heartland applications & placement testing have to be completed by December 20, 2024 to be eligible for ANY dual credit class for the 2025-26 school year.

Click here for the Dual Credit Information Handout, which lists and describes all courses offered for the 2025-26 school year.  ***Course offerings are based on student requests/enrollment.   All courses represent potential courses for the 2025-26 school year.  Courses that do not have sufficient enrollment will not be offered.

Interested students must complete the College NOW Student Admission Process:

1. Complete the HCC Application online. Start here: https://www.heartland.edu/application/index.html

2. Complete the Heartland basic skills assessment/placement testing.  Students will register for the assessment(s) by using their myHeartland login information. Please note that many assessment appointments are during the school day or early afternoon. Do not count on Saturday appointment times, due to HCC being short staffed.

 Friendly Reminders:    If a student is currently enrolled in a dual credit course for the 2024-25 school year, they do not need to reapply or reassess.  They are still active at Heartland and still qualify for the 2025-26 school year.   If a student applied, assessed, and placed into dual credit courses for the 2024-25 school year, but chose not to take a dual credit course this year, they do not have to do anything else. They are still eligible to request a course. 

**If a student cannot remember if they qualified on the placement test, please have them see their counselor. College NOW dual credit students enjoy the following benefits:

  • Reduced time to degree completion
  • Early college-level exposure & exploration 
  • Increased confidence & competence

Students that enroll in a dual credit course will earn high school credit (count toward graduation credits and grade point average) and college credit for colleges that accept the credit. Students and parents are strongly encouraged to check with colleges of interest to verify the conditions under which they will accept dual credit coursework from Heartland Community College.

Dual credit courses are taught at NCHS and NCWHS during the regular school day by Unit 5 faculty members. Heartland will waive tuition for those courses -- meaning there is no tuition charged to Unit 5 students who choose to enroll in those courses. However, students/parents are responsible for purchasing any required textbooks for dual credit courses as they are not provided by our school district. (Textbooks range in price from $0.00 per course to $200.00 per course.)
