Congratulations to the following students for being accepted into the 98th annual Amateur Art competition at the McLean County Arts Center. Alex Clouse, Emilse Mohedano Tellez, Taylor Hartley and Ray Bridgette. Ray received 2nd place on both the high school painting and high school sculpture categories. The work is on display for 5 weeks at the art center in downtown Bloomington! Great job everyone.
All Juniors: Please welcome some 40 colleges & universities at our annual Junior College Fair this Wednesday! You will be called down to the auditorium by alphabet beginning 2nd hour Wednesday. Happy March Madness, Crafters! This week we will be having a Beginner Cross Stitch workshop at our weekly Crafting Club meeting. You will be able to choose a kit with all of the supplies included, and step-by-step directions will be given. Are you new to the Iron Crafting Club? Come check us out and try a new skill! The IHSEA Marvel Rivals season begins in April, and tryouts for the Unit 5 Esports team are starting in the next few weeks! If you aren’t already a part of Unit 5 Esports, reach out to Mr. Neiburger or Mr. Emberson for details. There is no commitment necessary to participate in the Marvel Rival tryouts.

We begin this morning with a moment in black history. Helen Octavia Dickens earned her medical degree in 1934 from the University of Illinois and was the only Black woman in her graduating class. 11 years later, in 1945, Dickens became the first Black woman to receive board certification in obstetrics and gynecology. That was a Monday moment in black history presented by BSU.
Black Student Union is also celebrating black history month with this week's Spirit Week. Today- Love and basketball, wear red and pink colors or jerseys.
Tuesday, dress as a family member, Wednesday is a Day of unity so twin with a group. Thursday-Dress team Drake or Kendrick and Friday- Dress as a black celebrity.

The girls basketball team plays their sectional semi-final game at Normal West Tuesday night at 7pm. Last week, Pekin brought a big student section to Normal West for the regional--let's out-do them on the court and in the stands. Tomorrow night at West at 7pm!

We begin this morning with a moment in black history. Shirley Chisholm was the first African American woman elected to the House of Representatives. She was elected in 1968 and represented the state of New York. She broke ground again four years later, in 1972, when she became the first major party African American candidate and the first female candidate for president of the United States. That was a Monday moment in black history presented by BSU.

Do you love animals? Then the new Zoology club is for you. The club promotes the study of animals and an appreciation of wildlife. Students will explore facts about animals and how to care for them. The zoology club will meet after school this Thursday, Feb. 13th, in room 208.

We begin this morning with a moment in black history. John Mercer Langston was the first Black man to become a lawyer when he passed the bar in Ohio in 1854. When he was elected to the post of Town Clerk for Brownhelm, Ohio, in 1855 Langston became one of the first African Americans ever elected to public office in America. John Mercer Langston was also the great-uncle of Langston Hughes, famed poet of the Harlem Renaissance. That was a Monday moment in black history presented by BSU.
The After-School Forge reopens for the second semester this week. It is in room 4 in the senior hallway from 3:45-5:00 every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (though it is not open this Thursday due to the half day). Students are welcome at the Forge any day and as often as they would like, as long as they bring their ID and something to work on.

Attention Ironmen Wrestling Fans: Cheer on your NCHS Wrestling Team when they compete in IHSA Class 3A Regional action this Saturday in the NCHS East Gym starting at 9:00 am. All fans must pay for admission - no Student Activity Passes or Unit 5 Family passes will be accepted since this is an IHSA postseason event. Tickets can be purchased for $10.00 digitally through the GoFan app or NCHS Ironmen app or for $11.00 cash at the gate. FBLA is excited to partner with the Back to School Alliance for a supply drive to support local schools. We’re collecting items like composition notebooks, Expo markers, colored pencils, crayons, and tissue boxes. Donations can be dropped off in the box in the atrium through February 5th. Every little bit helps, and your support can make a big difference!
Auditions for the NCHS Musical, Mamma Mia! will be held today and tomorrow beginning at 6:00pm. Based on the greatest hits of the band ABBA, this show will be tons of fun!
